Description

Irish Coffee. From Your Daily Hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ounces (120ml) hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 ounces (45ml) Irish whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream, lightly whipped

Instructions

  1. Warm a glass with hot water, then empty it.
  2. Stir coffee, whiskey, and sugar in the glass until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Spoon the cream onto the back of a spoon so it floats.
  4. Drink through the cream.

Notes

The cream should sit on top. Whip it only to soft ribbons, not stiff peaks.

Glass

Warm, so the coffee does not drop temperature at once.

Cream

Soft. Stiff cream sinks in chunks.

Coffee

Fresh and hot. A lukewarm cup will not melt the sugar.

Float

The spoon trick. A dump of cream mixes in.

Whipped cream from a can?

Too stiff and sweet. Soft cream from a bowl.

Sugar?

Iced?

Then it is not Irish coffee. This one is hot.
