Overnight Oats

Jar of overnight oats topped with berries and a drizzle of honey

This overnight oats recipe is the no-cook jar: rolled oats, milk, yogurt, and chia that soften in the fridge. It is not baked oatmeal, not stovetop porridge, and not a French toast casserole. Those stay on their own pages. This URL is the mix-and-chill breakfast.

Description

Creamy overnight oats you mix in a jar at night. Rolled oats, milk, yogurt, and chia. From Your Daily Hit.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (45g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk of choice
  • 1/4 cup (60g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon (10g) chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of fine salt
  • Toppings: berries, banana, nut butter, or extra maple

Instructions

  1. Stir the oats, milk, yogurt, chia, maple, vanilla, and salt in a 12-ounce jar or bowl until the chia is not sitting in a clump.
  2. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. In the morning stir. If it is too thick, loosen with a splash of milk. Add toppings and eat cold, or warm 30 seconds if you prefer.

Notes

Rolled oats, not instant (they turn gluey) and not steel-cut (they stay hard without extra liquid and time). The base keeps 4 days, so mix a few jars on Sunday.

Jar, not baked oatmeal

Baked oatmeal is a hot casserole. This is a cold soak. Keep the search intent on this URL.

Substitutions

Dairy-free milk and coconut yogurt work. Skip chia and add 2 extra tablespoons oats; the set will be looser. Peanut butter (1 tablespoon) can replace the yogurt for a thicker jar.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not use instant oats. Do not skip the salt — it keeps the jar from tasting flat. Do not add crunchy toppings until morning.

Storage

Base jars keep 4 days in the fridge. Add fruit the day you eat so it does not weep.

Nutrition (estimated)

About 340 calories per jar without extra toppings. Estimate only.

FAQ

Can I use steel-cut oats?

Not in this ratio. They stay chewy. Stick to old-fashioned rolled oats.

How long do overnight oats last?

The mixed base keeps 4 days refrigerated. Add fresh fruit the morning you eat.

Is this the same as baked oatmeal?

No. Baked oatmeal goes in the oven. Overnight oats soak in the fridge and are eaten from a jar.

Can I warm them?

Yes. 20 to 30 seconds in the microwave. Add a splash of milk if they tighten.
